Meeting My Roommates

On Sunday we celebrated Father’s Day at the Omega Restaurant and Pancake House in Niles, Illinois.

Despite the masses of holiday customers, we somehow managed to get a table large enough for all of us and still have time to eat huge breakfasts before having to go our separate ways.

After our feast my nephew gave me the keys to his five-on-the-floor Mustang and his condo. I did a test drive around the parking lot without mishap. Everyone else headed to the airports and I headed to Evanston to move in with my two college roommates.

This is a sign I saw on the way. I could use one of these in my front yard.

I found my way to the condo and moved in with my two pieces of luggage. My new roommates (Adam and Hayley) had lost the only television set (my nephew sold it) and their air conditioning. They had gained me.

As a gesture of goodwill I offered to take them to dinner in Evanston. After walking a few blocks they chose Dixie Kitchen.

It is a Southern-themed restaurant with checkered plastic table cloths and lots of Coca-Cola signs and cornbread products. I felt like I was in Georgia or the Carolinas. Not at all what I had expected on my first night staying in Evanston. The food was good and the portions were generous.

We got to know each other a bit during the meal. Then we returned to the condo. We are spending a lot of time together today because it is cooler in the common living area than it is in the bedrooms.

I loved it. So did the others. I wish I had more time here so I could go to places twice.
