Neighbors

Yesterday, as I enjoyed the cool breezes in our condo building’s common courtyard area while waiting for the air conditioning people to rescue us, I met the woman who lives in the unit on one side of ours. She is young (yes, to me almost everyone is young) and has a husband and two children.

Today she invited me to join her family for dinner. Since the occasion provided an opportunity for adult conversation, I readily accepted. Her timing was excellent, since my roommates were hosting a party for several friends from their respective swim teams.

This is our building.

1889 MapleAfter dinner I walked over to Whole Foods and bought chocolate brownies and chocolate cookies for the swimmers. Unfortunately, everyone had headed elsewhere by the time I returned.

Adam and I have a lot of chocolate to consume.

My neighbors used to live in Princeton, New Jersey, but ended up staying in Evanston after he received his M.B.A. from the Kellogg School at Northwestern.

Now he is a McKinsey & Company consultant. While serving in the Army he flew an Apache helicopter. It was a pleasure talking with him.
