Northwestern Communication Graduation

On Saturday afternoon we had the Northwestern University School of Communication Commencement Convocation. Mercifully, it was held indoors in an air conditioned building. (The Arts & Sciences ceremony was held in the basketball arena, which is not air conditioned.)

This event was similar to Friday’s university-wide commencement. More speakers talking to students wearing hot, heavy gowns. The bonus is that today the students actually receive their degrees.

After the ceremony our group of family and friends went to my nephew’s condo for champagne. There we discovered that the air conditioner was not working. Ugh! We stayed there for a warm, but bearable, celebration before adjourning to Pete Miller’s restaurant in Evanston for dinner.

After dinner we went to Tommy Nevin’s Pub for drinks.

We were short on cars, so we loaded five people into the backseat of our car with me as the designated driver. Promptly thereafter we were stopped by the people entrusted with enforcing laws related to the safe operation of motor vehicles in the City of Evanston.

Upon my promises that (1) I would deliver two of the backseat culprits to the nearby condo and (2) the remaining three backseat passengers then would fasten their seat belts, we were released. Note to self – start hanging out with a more-law-abiding crowd.
